How it works
How Site Checkups reads your page
Site Checkups is a second pair of eyes for your homepage. It reads the page the way a first-time visitor would and tells you, in plain words, what gets in their way. It's a conversion review: do people understand you, trust you, and know what to do next? It isn't an SEO, speed or accessibility audit.
What it reads
When you paste an address, our server fetches the page the way a browser would, but without running the page's scripts. From the page it takes:
- the page title and description, which is what shows in search results and shared links
- every heading
- the buttons and links, including your navigation
- the descriptions on your images (their alt text)
- the footer
- the first 3,000 or so characters of the text a visitor sees
That goes to an AI reviewer, briefed the way you'd brief a conversion specialist. It never logs in, never fills in a form, and never sees anything behind a password.
What the free report checks
- First impression: what a stranger thinks and feels in the first few seconds.
- The five-second test: what someone understands before deciding to stay or go.
- Offer clarity: what visitors think you offer, next to what you actually offer.
- Mismatches: where those two drift apart, and what it costs you.
- Visitor hesitations: the doubts running through someone's head right before they leave.
- Conversion blockers: the problems costing you sign-ups or sales, each rated from 1 (minor) to 5 (critical).
- Trust gaps: proof that's missing.
- Button problems: calls to action that confuse, compete, or ask for too much too soon.
The free report only diagnoses. It describes each problem and why it costs you, and it deliberately doesn't prescribe fixes. That keeps it honest: it can't pad a thin diagnosis with generic advice.
How the grade works
The letter grade counts conversion blockers, the problems most likely to cost you customers.
| Conversion blockers found | Grade |
|---|---|
| None | A |
| 1 | B |
| 2 or 3 | C |
| 4 or 5 | D |
| 6 or more | F |
It's a quick read on how much is in the way, not a score out of 100. One critical blocker can cost you more than three small ones, so read the severity next to each.
What the Growth Plan adds
The Growth Plan ($19, one-time, per site) turns the diagnosis into changes you can make this week.
- Five questions first: your goal, your monthly visitors, how many customers you have, who it's for, and anything you won't do. You can also name up to two competitors to compare against.
- Screenshots: the plan looks at your page as it first loads on a desktop and on a phone, so it can judge the layout, not just the words.
- Your words, rewritten: before-and-after fixes that quote your page, three ways to write your hero, new button text, answers to your visitors' top questions, and a better search snippet.
- Steps for your site builder: when we can tell what your site is built with (Squarespace, Wix, Shopify, WordPress, Webflow and others), the click-by-click steps are written for it.
- A checklist and a re-check: tick fixes off as you go, then within 30 days run a free re-check that reads the page again and shows what's fixed and what's left.
The plan follows a few rules so its advice fits a small business:
- No A/B tests under about 5,000 visitors a month. There isn't enough traffic for them to mean anything, so it suggests faster checks instead. Why, with the math.
- No proof you don't have. With no customers yet, it won't tell you to add reviews. It tells you how to earn the first ones.
- Nothing on your "don't suggest" list. If you stay anonymous, it won't ask for your photo. What works instead.
- Every fix points at something on your actual page. No advice that would fit any site.
See every part of a real one in the sample report.
What it can't do
- Pages that build everything with scripts after loading show the free review less text, and the report will reflect that. The Growth Plan's screenshots do show the finished page.
- It reads one page at a time. Run your pricing or product pages separately.
- It can't see your analytics, your sales or your audience. Your answers to the five questions are how the plan learns about your business.
- It's an AI reviewer, so it can be wrong. If a report misreads your page, tell us at hello@sitecheckups.com. If a Growth Plan isn't useful, we'll refund it within 14 days.
What happens to your data
We keep reports so the same site doesn't have to be analyzed twice. The free part of a report can be shown to anyone who checks the same address. A Growth Plan, with its screenshots and your answers, is only ever shown to your account. The details are on the privacy page.
